What is Fineness?
Fineness, in knitwear, refers to the density of the stitches, meaning the number of needles per inch on the needle bed of a knitting machine. This parameter directly affects the weave and the quality of the final garment. Fineness is indicated by numbers: a higher fineness means a finer and lighter knit, while a lower fineness indicates a thicker and heavier knit.

- High Fineness (Fineness 12-16): We use high fineness for our lighter and more delicate garments, perfect for warmer seasons or an elegant and sophisticated look. For example, silk and cotton yarns, known for their lightness and breathability, are often worked with high fineness. This type of knitwear is ideal for blouses, light tops, and thin sweaters that offer comfort and style without being heavy.
- Medium Fineness (Fineness 7-10): Medium fineness is used to create versatile garments that can be worn year-round. Merino wool, for instance, with its excellent insulating and thermoregulating properties, is often worked at these fineness levels. Sweaters and jackets made with this fineness offer the perfect balance between warmth and breathability, making them ideal for everyday wear.
- Low Fineness (Fineness 3-6): For heavier and warmer garments, such as wool and cashmere sweaters, we use low fineness. These garments are perfect for facing winter temperatures, providing exceptional warmth and comfort. The higher density of the stitches gives the fabrics greater robustness and a sense of enveloping softness, making them ideal for cold winter days.
